Silver

That gorgeous, emerald green field,

my scarlet, happy love;

Love is like a silvery Hans,

who protects everyone like a hand in a glove.


I bask in the warm, marigold sun,

that shines through all of my azure misery;

Happiness feels like a speedy, silvery Rudy,

who dashes like he's being chased by angry bees.


The night's sky is the same hue as death,

while pink's the color of happy souls;

Peace is like my silvery death,

which will carry me away, over that beautiful knoll.

Response to An Article on the Greenhouse Effect

WARNING! IF YOU WANT THIS POST TO MAKE SENSE...
A) Know a bit about the greenhouse effect.
B) Read this article!

Okay, so, it makes me extremely happy to know that a CAR company is doing it's share to unpollute an extremely polluted area. First, they hold back on the emissions their plants and power houses use. Already, this has decreased emissions in the Philippines by 24 percent. Also, they are teaching students how be more energy efficient drivers, no matter what type of car they have. This is absolutely amazing. I mean, young people are learning how to be more conservative. Areas in the Philippines are covered by so much black smog, that it is creating ozone holes and massive turns on the greenhouse effect. If you already knew, the greenhouse effect is the sunlight that the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere reflects back to warm the earth. More carbon dioxide makes more heat to be reflected. Currently, cars and other methods of transportation are putting the most CO2 into our atmosphere. It is nice to know that this company is giving back for what they took. But, then again, how are they going to get rid of all the carbon dioxide that their company has already put into our atmosphere?

A Very Yummy, Yet Scientifical Lab

During Science Class, we did this very interesting lab to learn about Heat Transfer. If involved a microwave, a hot popper, and some very yummy popcorn, and some very unaffective butter spray. Here is the do-dads.

What: A popcorn Lab
Where: Science Class
When: A Couple of Days Ago
Why: To learn about the diffrent types of heat transfer.
How (Procedure):
1. Obtain a popcorn popper. Place thepopcorn kernels in the popper. Turn on the popper. Hot air will transfer heat to the kernels, making them expand and pop.
2. Microwave a seperate bag of popcorn.

What Has Occured:
What I seen through this lab was very interesting. First of all, the microwave. That demonstrated radiation. The heat rays transfered through the empty space in the microwave to the popcorn kernels. This heated the tiny drop of water in each kernel, making the kernel expand and pop! This created the popcorn. Now to the popcorn popper. The popcorn popper heats the air, which counts as a fluid. This directly heats the popcorn, making it pop. This displays convection.

P.S If you ever do this lab, buy flavored popcorn. SPRAY-ON BUTTER DOES NOT WORK!!!

Air Pressure: Question Answers

1)
a. Air pressure is the weight of a colloum of air pushing down on an area or surface.

b. Denser gases have more mass, therefore it exerts a greater air pressure, because it is a larger colloum of air pushing down on a broader area.

2)
a. There are two types of instruments that measure air pressure. The first is a mercury barometer. A mercury barometer is a glass tube with mercury at the bottom. Everything above it is air. As the air pressure changes in the tube, mercury is pushed upward or downward, giving the temperature reading. The second instrument is an Aneroid Barometer. This one has a sensitive metal chamber. With the help of some screws and levers, the metal chamber changes with different air pressures, giving a temperature reading.

b. Weather stations use mercury inches. The National Weather Service maps use millibars. One mercury inch equals 33.87 millibars.

c. 922.2801 millibars.

3)
a. Altitude, or elevation, is the distance the given location is from sea level. As air pressure decreases, altitude increases. And as the pressure decreases, the density decreases.

b. Sea level air has the weight of the entire atmosphere pressing down on it. The higher you go, the less weight is pushed down on you. Density increases because the higher you go, the more spread apart the air molecules are.

c. If you went in a mine shaft with a barometer, the reading would get lower the further down you went. The reason for this is that you have additional pressure the further down you get.

Chicken Soup From A Girl Who Did Dissection

Can you guess what this blog is about?






Well, obviously from the title, in this blog, I'm going to ramble about dissection in schools. Personally, I have just completed the dissections for a worm, grasshopper(external), frog, and starfish. And, let me tell you, I was grossed out at the beginning too. Even for the worm, I just couldn't make the first cut! But, after my classmate followed procedure and opened up the worm, I was totally engrossed and fascinated. Call me a hypocrite, but I had fun! It was an amazing learning experience, and, it totally changed the way I looked at animals. Personally, I totally support this practice! First off, it gives you an idea of animals and their body systems. Hello! Their body systems are closely related to ours! So, beside learning about animals, we also learn about ourselves and other human anatomy! Secondly, this lab is ten times more fun than doing some boring textbook reading and taking notes. So, beside having fun, you are busy with the lab, and won't feel bored! And thirdly, these labs give you a better understanding. I mean, words can always take you so far. But, when you actually witness the event, and see the inside of an animal, you truly have an understanding. It is one of those, "you needed to be there to get it," moments. And, to all those schools who don't do this, shame on you! You're students only know what the words tell them. They don't get to see the real thing. I mean, if they went for biology in college, and they didn't know what a vestigial oviduct really looked like, then, college will be a rocky road! Well, that is exaggerated, but, it gets students more interested in biology. I know after this unit, there are more things I want to know! Well, that's all for know, but I hope you all digested this chicken soup!

Math

Global Warming. Obviously, with a title called math, that isn't the first thing that pops up in your head. But, it does in mine.. In this post, i'm going to involve math with my research topic, global warming! Fun....

75%. That could stand for anything. Now, what about a statistic. More importantly, a global warming statistic. That number, 75%, is the percent of how much carbon dioxide is in our air from fossil fuels. Fun... Well, its the shocking truth. Do you know where fossil fuels come from? Cars. Trucks. Pretty much anything that uses fuel contributes. Hence, fossil fuels. Now, what about this number? 7%. Now, that's small, right? Wrong. That measly seven-percent is actually the rate the glaciers are melting. Now, you might think that's silly and not a worry. Well, who is going to think it's silly when the ice caps are gone. That seven-percent is actually increasing over the years. Yep, it's getting higher and higher. Feeling the pressure yet? Now what about this number. 100%. Yes, one-hundred percent. That is the statistic for how many animals are going to die to change compleatly due to global warming. Now, I still want to see the cuddly panda pears and the funny-looking baboons. Don't you? Anyways, all these numbers do have one point. Global Warming is filled with all types of numbers and equations. But, this is the one everyone should know.

(More fuel use + More cutting trees and land + More heat) x the greenhouse effect = a very, very hot planet.

Now, it's not an equation for rocket science, but it's pretty obvious. If habits don't change, we will continue to have the same outcome. A very, very hot planet.
